Local tips

SCU (Squamish) Insurance Services Ltd. at 1325 Pemberton Avenue handles road test bookings and has later hours than most, open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with road tests by appointment. The railway is a real feature here: map data shows six level crossings about 290 to 325 m from the office. Slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. A roundabout lies about 200 m away, with others about 600 and 725 m away, so get comfortable yielding to circling traffic and signalling your exit. The Sea-to-Sky Highway (BC 99), posted at 70 km/h, is about 600 m away. Map data counts 101 marked crosswalks nearby, so look for pedestrians at every intersection. École Squamish Elementary is about 420 m away; ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail. Our 6.1 km practice route uses Pemberton Avenue, Cleveland Avenue, Buckley Avenue and Industrial Way to reach the Sea-to-Sky Highway, then returns by Bailey Street, Village Green Way and Eaglewind Boulevard through two roundabouts. Practice checking mirrors as you speed up on the highway.

Common questions

Pemberton road test FAQ

What are the hours at Pemberton?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
