Local tips
Gibsons Driver Licensing is at 474 South Fletcher Road, open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with road tests by appointment. Unlike many centres, there are only two sets of traffic lights within a kilometre, the nearest about 695 m away, so much of your driving here is about stop signs, crosswalks and right-of-way at quieter corners. Map data shows 24 marked crosswalks nearby; look for pedestrians and be ready to stop. Gibsons Elementary is about 645 m from the office and the Sunshine Coast Alternative School about 685 m away. ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail, so keep to the school zone limit on weekdays. A roundabout lies about 690 m away: yield to traffic already in it and signal your exit. Our 15.6 km practice route runs from South Fletcher Road to Winn Road and Gower Point Road, uses Pratt Road and Cemetery Road to reach North Road (BC 101), then comes back by Marine Drive and School Road. Practice the sharp left that keeps you on Pratt Road, slowing early and checking for oncoming cars.
Common questions
Gibsons road test FAQ
What are the hours at Gibsons?
ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
Is a practice route available for Gibsons?
