Local tips

North Vancouver Driver Licensing is at 1331 Marine Drive, and Marine Drive is the road to get comfortable with: map data shows it about 70 m away with five lanes. The office is open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except Wednesday, when it opens at 9:00 a.m., and road tests are by appointment. There are 62 sets of traffic lights within a kilometre, the nearest about 85 m away, so plan your lane early. Norgate's two schools are about 305 to 310 m away, with a childcare centre about 325 m away. ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail, so stick to the school zone limit on weekdays. A fire hall sits about 260 m from the office; signal and pull to the right if a fire truck approaches. Map data also shows railway level crossings about 810 to 840 m away, so slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. Our 9.3 km practice route takes Bridgman Avenue to Marine Drive, follows the exit toward BC 99 North and the Highway 1 East ramp, then leaves at exit 17 for Westview Drive and returns by Larson Road and Fell Avenue. On the ramp, match the speed of traffic and shoulder-check before you merge.

Common questions

North Vancouver road test FAQ

What are the hours at North Vancouver?

ICBC lists: Mon–Tue 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Wed 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Thu–Sat 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
