Local tips

The Vancouver Kingsway Claims Centre at 999 Kingsway is a road-test-only location, open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with road tests by appointment. Kingsway itself runs about 40 m from the office with three lanes and a 50 km/h limit. Two schools are very close: Charles Dickens Elementary School about 165 m away and Cedar Walk about 195 m away. ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail, so keep to the school zone limit on weekdays. Map data also counts four roundabouts nearby, the nearest just 180 m away; slow down, yield to anyone already in them and signal your exit. With 464 stop signs in the surrounding streets and 81 sets of traffic lights within a kilometre, expect to stop often. Our 14.6 km practice route uses Windsor Street, East 18th Avenue and Knight Street, then follows East 12th Avenue east to Boundary Road and Canada Way before returning along East 41st Avenue, Knight Street and Kingsway. On the residential side streets, practice full stops and clear shoulder checks before pulling away.

Common questions

Kingsway road test FAQ

What are the hours at Kingsway?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
