It's open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., opening at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesdays, and road tests are by appointment. Signals are the defining feature here: map data counts 442 sets of traffic lights within a kilometre, the nearest about 80 m from the office. West Georgia Street (BC 99) and Burrard Street both have six lanes and a 50 km/h limit, so choose your lane well before each turn. With 83 marked crosswalks nearby and several colleges, the closest about 85 m away, expect a lot of people on foot; always check the crosswalk before turning. A fire hall is about 325 m away and St. Paul's Hospital about 700 m, so be ready to pull over for emergency vehicles. Practice smooth lane changes with a clear shoulder check.
Common questions
Royal Centre road test FAQ
What are the hours at Royal Centre?
ICBC lists: Mon–Tue 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Wed 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Thu–Sat 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
