Local tips

Squamish Claims Centre at 38919 Progress Way handles road tests only. It's open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. The Sea-to-Sky Highway (BC 99) passes about 160 m away and is posted at 70 km/h, so look well ahead and wait for a clear gap before joining it. Map data shows roundabouts about 760 m, 1.4 km and 1.6 km away; yield to traffic already in them and signal your exit. Railway level crossings sit about 845 m and 1.2 km away, so slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. There are seven sets of traffic lights within a kilometre, the nearest about 310 m away. Our 14.3 km practice route leaves on Progress Way and Industrial Way, follows Queens Way, Government Road, Edgewater Drive and Mamquam Road, then returns through Production Way, Enterprise Way and Commercial Way to a roundabout, taking the third exit onto Discovery Way. Practice counting exits as you go around.

Common questions

Progress road test FAQ

What are the hours at Progress?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
