Local tips
The Caraquet driver examination office is at 127 Boulevard Saint-Pierre Ouest, open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with road tests by appointment. Boulevard Saint-Pierre Ouest is Route 145, the main road through town. Map data shows it as three lanes at 50 km/h, with businesses and driveways along it. Watch for cars turning in and out, and check your blind spot before changing lanes. There are no traffic lights nearby, but there are about eight pedestrian crossings within 800 metres. Stop for anyone waiting to cross. Polyvalente Louis-Mailloux, the high school, is about 645 metres away, so slow down for students on weekdays, and a fire station is about 440 metres away. Our 21.8 km practice route follows Boulevard Saint-Pierre Ouest (Route 145) and Chemin Alexis to Route 11, then comes back through a roundabout onto Boulevard des Acadiens (Route 145). Yield to traffic already in the roundabout and signal your exit.
Common questions
Caraquet road test FAQ
What are the hours at Caraquet?
Service New Brunswick lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Offices close on statutory holidays, so check snb.ca before you go.
How do I book a road test?
Book online through Service New Brunswick's Driver Examination Online Booking Service (linked from gnb.ca's Driver licence testing page), or call TeleServices at 1-888-762-8600 (Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.). The road test fee is $25 plus HST for each attempt, and you can take the test in English or French.
What do I need to bring?
A licensed driver with at least three years of experience and a valid Class 5 (or equivalent) licence to come with you, your valid learner's permit, a signed and valid vehicle registration, proof of valid insurance for the vehicle, your driving school certificate if you have one, and proof of payment for the test. Bring paper copies; only the proof of insurance can be digital. If anything is missing, you'll be turned away.
How long do I need my learner's licence first, and what if I fail?
New drivers take this road test to move from Class 7 Level 1 (learner) to Level 2. You must have held Level 1 for at least one year, or eight months if you completed a recognized driver education course (green certificate required). The wait is waived if you've been fully licensed before. If you don't pass, you book and pay for another attempt.
