Local tips
Bathurst's driver examination office has moved. Service New Brunswick now lists it at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre, 14 Sean Couturier Avenue, in the College Hill area. Older listings still give 161 Main Street downtown, which is a different Service New Brunswick office, so check your booking confirmation and go to the regional centre. Exams run weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by appointment. The regional centre is a large arena complex, and map data shows parking lots about 100 metres from the building. This is a school-heavy area: École secondaire Népisiguit is about 400 metres away, Place des Jeunes about 470 metres away, and the community college campus about 825 metres away. Watch for students crossing, especially at the start and end of the school day. There are four sets of traffic lights within a kilometre, plus about seven stop signs and eight pedestrian crossings. Our 14.1 km practice route heads down Sean Couturier Avenue and Saint Anne Street, joins Route 11 to exit 304, and comes back along Route 430, King Avenue, Dumaresq Street and Murray Avenue (Route 134). Practice building speed on the ramp and merging smoothly.
Common questions
Bathurst road test FAQ
What are the hours at Bathurst?
Service New Brunswick lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Offices close on statutory holidays, so check snb.ca before you go.
How do I book a road test?
Book online through Service New Brunswick's Driver Examination Online Booking Service (linked from gnb.ca's Driver licence testing page), or call TeleServices at 1-888-762-8600 (Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.). The road test fee is $25 plus HST for each attempt, and you can take the test in English or French.
What do I need to bring?
A licensed driver with at least three years of experience and a valid Class 5 (or equivalent) licence to come with you, your valid learner's permit, a signed and valid vehicle registration, proof of valid insurance for the vehicle, your driving school certificate if you have one, and proof of payment for the test. Bring paper copies; only the proof of insurance can be digital. If anything is missing, you'll be turned away.
How long do I need my learner's licence first, and what if I fail?
New drivers take this road test to move from Class 7 Level 1 (learner) to Level 2. You must have held Level 1 for at least one year, or eight months if you completed a recognized driver education course (green certificate required). The wait is waived if you've been fully licensed before. If you don't pass, you book and pay for another attempt.
