Local tips
The Shippagan driver examination office is at 185B 1re Rue, open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with road tests by appointment. Map data shows parking right beside the building. Rue 1re carries Route 113 through town, so expect through traffic, trucks and turning vehicles. Two elementary schools are close by: École L'Envolée about 490 metres away and École Marie-Esther about 580 metres away, so slow down for children on weekdays. Boulevard J.D. Gauthier, also part of Route 113, is about 660 metres away, where you'll find the nearest set of traffic lights. The CCNB campus is about 1.5 kilometres away. There are a few pedestrian crossings nearby, but most junctions are stop-controlled or uncontrolled, so come to full stops and check every direction. Our 5.3 km practice route starts and ends about a kilometre away, on Boulevard J.D. Gauthier near Rue 17e. It loops through Rue 10e, Avenue Hôtel de Ville, Rue Cormier, Avenue Loudun and Rue des Saules, then Rue 1re, Rue de l'École, Rue des Fondateurs and Rue Goupil, a good mix of town streets and Route 113.
Common questions
Shippagan road test FAQ
What are the hours at Shippagan?
Service New Brunswick lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Offices close on statutory holidays, so check snb.ca before you go.
How do I book a road test?
Book online through Service New Brunswick's Driver Examination Online Booking Service (linked from gnb.ca's Driver licence testing page), or call TeleServices at 1-888-762-8600 (Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.). The road test fee is $25 plus HST for each attempt, and you can take the test in English or French.
What do I need to bring?
A licensed driver with at least three years of experience and a valid Class 5 (or equivalent) licence to come with you, your valid learner's permit, a signed and valid vehicle registration, proof of valid insurance for the vehicle, your driving school certificate if you have one, and proof of payment for the test. Bring paper copies; only the proof of insurance can be digital. If anything is missing, you'll be turned away.
How long do I need my learner's licence first, and what if I fail?
New drivers take this road test to move from Class 7 Level 1 (learner) to Level 2. You must have held Level 1 for at least one year, or eight months if you completed a recognized driver education course (green certificate required). The wait is waived if you've been fully licensed before. If you don't pass, you book and pay for another attempt.
