Local tips
Western Financial Group handles licensing in Sparwood at 110 Centennial St. Hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with road tests by appointment. Two fast roads are close by: the Crowsnest Highway (CN 3), posted at 80 km/h, is about 235 m from the office, and the Elk Valley Highway (BC 43), posted at 70 km/h, is about 505 m away, with a bridge on it about 560 m out. When joining either, build speed steadily and leave plenty of room to the vehicle ahead. Schools about 500 m and 655 m away mean watching for students and school zones on weekdays; ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail. The nearest of five traffic lights is about 545 m away. Our 9.2 km practice route mostly uses local streets such as Centennial Street, Red Cedar Drive, Pacific Yew Crescent, Maple Street and Pine Avenue, with a short stretch on the Crowsnest Highway. Practice moving smoothly between lower speeds and highway speed.
Common questions
Sparwood road test FAQ
What are the hours at Sparwood?
ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; Sat 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
