Local tips

Westview Agencies Ltd. (the Co-operators) acts as the licensing agent at 109-4871 Joyce Ave. in Powell River, open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with road tests by appointment. qathet General Hospital is about 435 m from the office, so keep an ear out for sirens and be ready to signal and pull over to the right. Map data shows just one traffic light nearby, about 640 m away, so many intersections near the office have no signals. Slow down, look left and right, and be clear about who goes first. There are nine marked crosswalks and four stop signs in the surrounding streets. Marine Avenue, part of BC 101 and posted at 50 km/h, is about 565 m away. Our 7.4 km practice route is a compact loop: Abbotsford Street, Joyce Avenue, Westview Avenue, Kemano Street, Manson Avenue and back along Joyce Avenue to Harvie Avenue. Practice smooth left turns, picking a safe gap in oncoming traffic, since the loop returns along Joyce Avenue more than once.

Common questions

Powell River road test FAQ

What are the hours at Powell River?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
