Local tips
Roundabouts are the main skill to practice around Coastal Community Insurance Services (2007) Ltd., the Qualicum Beach licensing agent at 120A - 2nd Ave. Map data shows them about 155 m and 290 m from the office. Slow on approach, yield to traffic already in the circle and signal right before your exit. The office is open weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Railway level crossings are about 145 m and 430 m away: look both ways and never stop on the tracks. There is only one traffic light, about 150 m out, and Memorial Avenue, about 95 m away, is posted at 50 km/h. Kwalikum Secondary School is about 620 m from the office, so watch for school zones on weekdays. Our 32.8 km practice route goes up Memorial Avenue to the West Island Highway (BC 19A), then Moilliet Street North, Despard Avenue West and the Alberni Highway, takes the BC 19 ramp and exit 60, and returns via Rupert Road East and Chartwell Boulevard. Practice a steady speed on the highway section.
Common questions
Qualicum road test FAQ
What are the hours at Qualicum?
ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; Sat 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
