Local tips

ICBC's Campbell River location is in the Farwell Building, unit 115 at 1180 Ironwood Road. It's open Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Traffic lights come thick and fast here: map data counts 26 sets within a kilometre, the nearest about 160 m from the office. Approach each one at a speed that lets you stop smoothly if it changes. There are also 33 marked crosswalks nearby, so look for people waiting at the curb and give them the right of way. The fire hall is about 515 m away, so be ready to pull over if a fire truck comes up behind you. Our 14.2 km practice route uses Ironwood Street, 9th Avenue and Alder Street to reach the Island Highway (BC 19A), then takes the first exit at a roundabout onto Rockland Road before coming back by South Dogwood Street, Merecroft Road and 9th Avenue. At the roundabout, slow down, yield to traffic already circling and signal right before your exit.

Common questions

Campbell River road test FAQ

What are the hours at Campbell River?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
