Local tips
A fire station about 205 m from the office is worth keeping in mind at Westland Insurance Group Ltd. (operating as Dave Dale Insurance Agencies), the licensing agent at 386 Market Ave. in Grand Forks. If a fire truck approaches with lights flashing, signal and pull over to the right. The office is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Central Avenue, part of CN 3 and posted at 50 km/h, is about 200 m away, and map data shows bridges on 2nd Street about 250 m out and on Central Avenue about 350 m out. There are only two sets of traffic lights nearby, the nearest about 230 m away. Dr. D.A. Perley Elementary School is about 790 m from the office and Grand Forks Secondary School about 925 m, so watch for school zones on weekdays. Our 10.9 km practice route goes from Market Avenue and 4th Street onto Central Avenue, then Spraggett Road, East Almond Gardens Road, Cooper Road and Carson Road. Practice holding your lane position on the narrower roads.
Common questions
Grand Forks road test FAQ
What are the hours at Grand Forks?
ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; Sat 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
