Local tips

Village of Midway Driver Licensing is at 661 8th Avenue, just about 40 m from the Crowsnest Highway, which map data shows posted at 70 km/h. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Because highway traffic moves quickly so close by, take your time when turning onto or across it: look left, right and left again, and only go when the gap is clearly big enough. Florence Street, about 195 m away, is posted at 50 km/h, and map data shows a bridge on it about 645 m from the office. Midway Elementary School is about 590 m away and Boundary Central Secondary about 945 m away. ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail, so watch for school zone signs on weekdays. Our 7.1 km practice route heads southeast on Eighth Avenue to Florence Street, loops via Murray Street, Fourteenth Avenue and Division Street, joins the Crowsnest Highway from Beamish Street, then returns through Haynes Street and Cleghorn Street. Practice adjusting your speed smoothly as limits change.

Common questions

Midway road test FAQ

What are the hours at Midway?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.

Is a practice route available for Midway?
