Local tips

The Oshawa centre is inside Midtown Mall at 200 John Street West, a few blocks west of downtown. Map data shows a free customer parking lot right next to the DriveTest unit, so parking should be simple, but mall lots mean slow cars, pedestrians and people backing out of spaces. Leaving the mall you are quickly into a busy grid: King Street West runs along the north side with a signal at Midtown Drive, and John Street West has signals at Park Road South/Elmgrove Avenue and at Centre Street South. King and Bond are multi-lane primary roads, so practice lane choice and turning from the correct lane. Village Union Public School is about half a kilometre away, and Highway 401 ramps at Simcoe Street South are under a kilometre and a half south. Inside services run weekdays 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., while road test appointments are listed Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If Oshawa is fully booked, Toronto's Port Union centre is the nearest alternative to the west.
