Local tips

The Fort Frances centre is at 533 Mowat Avenue, near First Street. A local directory says it is across the street from Green's Furniture, and the accessible entrance is at the back on First Street. It is open only Monday, Thursday and Friday, and closes for lunch between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m., so plan any visit for one of those days. Mowat Avenue is part of Highway 71 and leads to the international bridge to International Falls. Read the signs carefully and stay in the correct lane so you do not end up in the border-crossing approach. Within a few blocks there are signals at Scott Street (Highway 11) and Second Street East, and more on Portage Avenue and Central Avenue, so practice smooth stops, right turns on red where allowed and protected left turns. Robert Moore Public School is less than a kilometre away, so practice slowing down for school zones. The nearest other full-time DriveTest centre is in Kenora.
