The nearest school is Robert Scott Elementary School, about 390 m away. If you hear a siren, signal, pull over to the right and stop until it passes. Douglas Street runs about 415 m from the office. Our 6.7 km practice route heads north on Market Street, follows Granville Street and Douglas Street to Trustee Road and Highland Drive, loops around Park Drive and West Glacier Crescent, then returns along Douglas Street, Columbia Street and Main Street. Use the crescent to practice slow, smooth curves while staying right of centre.
Common questions
Port Hardy road test FAQ
What are the hours at Port Hardy?
ICBC lists: Tue–Fri 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; Sat 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
