Local tips
Mackenzie's road-test bookings go through the Hub International Insurance Brokers (HCW) office at 12-600 Mackenzie Blvd., open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with road tests by appointment. The College of New Caledonia campus is only about 65 m away, and Mackenzie Secondary School and Morfee Elementary School are both about 465 m away. Watch for students and school zones on weekdays; ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail. The Mackenzie Emergency Services Building is about 260 m away, so pull to the right and stop if a fire truck or ambulance comes up behind you. MacKenzie Boulevard (BC 39), about 95 m away, has four lanes and is posted at 50 km/h. Our 24.6 km practice route runs south on BC 39, then uses Lions Lake Road, the Finlay-Causeway Forest Service Road and Mill Road before returning on Highway 39 and Centennial Drive. On the longer highway stretch, practice holding a steady speed and a safe following distance.
Common questions
Mackenzie road test FAQ
What are the hours at Mackenzie?
ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
