Local tips

The Village of Lumby handles road test bookings at 1775 Glencaird Street. The office is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Two schools are within a short drive: Charles Bloom Secondary School about 210 m away and J.W. Inglis Elementary School about 515 m away. ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail, so slow right down when you see school zone signs on weekdays. Vernon Street (BC 6) passes about 220 m from the office, so look carefully for gaps before turning onto it. Map data also shows several small bridges nearby, on Lions Lane about 135 m away, Maple Street about 210 m away and Vernon Street about 320 m away. With 21 marked crosswalks nearby, watch for people waiting to cross. At 4.8 km, our practice route is short: it runs from Shields Avenue and Glencaird Street to Norris Avenue and Vernon Street (BC 6), climbs through Grandview Avenue and Saddleview Avenue, then returns along Shuswap Avenue and Maple Street. Drive it several times to get comfortable with every turn.

Common questions

Lumby road test FAQ

What are the hours at Lumby?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
