Local tips
In Armstrong, road tests are booked through the Hub International Insurance Brokers (HCW) office at #1 - 3370 Smith Drive. It's open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Railway level crossings are the main thing to prepare for: map data shows them about 420 m, 710 m and 950 m from the office. Slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. The Vernon-Sicamous Highway (BC 97A), about 95 m away, is posted at 90 km/h, so judge gaps carefully before turning onto it. There's only one set of traffic lights nearby, about 205 m away, and the Armstrong Fire Dept. is about 465 m away, so stay alert for sirens. Our 11.8 km practice route takes Smith Drive to BC 97A, then works through Harding Road, Okanagan Street, Rosedale Avenue, Pleasant Valley Road and Wood Avenue. With so many back-to-back turns, practice signalling early and checking your blind spot each time.
Common questions
Armstrong road test FAQ
What are the hours at Armstrong?
ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; Sat 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
