Local tips

You'll find the Fort St. John Service BC Centre at 10600 - 100th St., right on 100 Street, which is posted at 50 km/h. It's open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Schools are the key hazard here: the Fort St. John Child Development Centre is about 490 m away, Alwin Holland Elementary about 540 m and C.M. Finch Elementary about 800 m. On weekdays, watch for children and school zones; ICBC's examiners say speeding through school and playground zones is a common reason people fail. There are 14 sets of traffic lights within a kilometre, the nearest about 110 m away, and 66 stop signs nearby. Our 10.7 km practice route uses 101 Street, 108 Avenue, 102 Street and 110 Avenue onto Peace River Road, with a sharp left, then a roundabout onto 86 Street, 87 Avenue, 93 Avenue and 81 Street before 100 Avenue and 100 Street. At the roundabout, yield to traffic already in it and signal your exit.

Common questions

Fort St. John road test FAQ

What are the hours at Fort St. John?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
