Local tips
With the Dawson Creek Fire Department only about 235 m from the Dawson Creek Service BC Centre at 1201 - 103 Ave., be ready to pull to the right and stop if you hear a siren. The centre is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. The Alaska Highway (BC 2) passes about 210 m away, and a roundabout sits about 580 m away; yield to traffic already in it and signal your exit. Railway level crossings are about 600 m and 870 m from the office, so slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. Dawson Creek Secondary Central Campus is about 475 m away, so watch for students on weekdays. Our 13.4 km practice route uses 104 Avenue and 13 Street to reach the Alaska Highway, takes the second exit at the roundabout toward Spirit River, then follows Road 215, Road 210 and 17 Street before returning by 15 Street and 105 Avenue. Practice judging gaps in highway traffic before you turn.
Common questions
Dawson Creek road test FAQ
What are the hours at Dawson Creek?
ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
