Local tips
Clearwater's road tests are booked through the District of Clearwater licensing office (listed as the District of Clearwater M.L.O.) at 209 Dutch Lake Road. It's open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Map data shows few hazards around the office, but two stand out right away: Old North Thompson Highway is about 90 m away, and there's a bridge on it about 105 m from the door. Keep to your lane and hold a steady speed across the bridge. A roundabout sits about 1.8 km away; yield to traffic already in it and signal before your exit. Our 12.8 km practice route leaves on Dutch Lake Road and Old North Thompson Highway, makes a sharp right onto Highway 5, takes an exit to Road 2A Forest Service Road and Camp Two Road, then returns via the roundabout to Park Drive, Murtle Crescent, Helmcken Street and Murtle Road. Practice slowing well before the sharp right and checking your blind spot when you take the exit.
Common questions
Clearwater road test FAQ
What are the hours at Clearwater?
ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.
How do I book a road test?
Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.
What do I need to bring?
Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.
When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?
New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
Is a practice route available for Clearwater?
