Local tips

Ashcroft's licensing agent is Interior Savings Insurance Services Inc. at 201 Railway Ave., and the Ashcroft Volunteer Fire Department is about 90 m away. If you hear a siren, signal, pull over to the right and stop until the emergency vehicle has passed. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays and 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays, with road tests by appointment. Map data shows railway level crossings about 295 m and 670 m from the office. Slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. Map data shows no traffic lights nearby, so come to a full stop at each stop sign and know your right-of-way rules. 1st Street, part of BC 97C, is posted at 50 km/h about 195 m away, and a bridge on Highway 97C is about 215 m out. Our 18.8 km practice route follows 1st Street and Highway 97C to the Trans-Canada Highway, then returns over the Ashcroft Bridge to Brink Street, 3rd Street and Bancroft Street. Practice matching your speed to each change in posted limit.

Common questions

Ashcroft road test FAQ

What are the hours at Ashcroft?

ICBC lists: Mon–Thu 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Fri 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; Sat 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
