Local tips

With a fire hall just 95 m away, the Quesnel Service BC Centre at unit 102, 350 Barlow Avenue is a place to keep listening for sirens: if one approaches, signal, pull to the right and stop. The centre is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and road tests are by appointment. Map data shows three railway level crossings about 425 to 435 m from the office. Slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. BC 97 runs nearby as Carson Avenue, about 185 m away, and Front Street, about 250 m away, both with three lanes and a 50 km/h limit. There are 21 sets of traffic lights within a kilometre, the nearest about 175 m away, and the Moffat Bridge is about 390 m away. Our 6.0 km practice route starts north on McLean Street, turns onto Barlow Avenue and Front Street (BC 97), then works through a grid of turns on Gordon Avenue, McNaughton Avenue, Shepherd Avenue, St. Laurent Avenue and Wilson Street. Use those repeated corners to practice signalling early and shoulder-checking every time.

Common questions

Quesnel road test FAQ

What are the hours at Quesnel?

ICBC lists: Mon–Fri 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Road tests by appointment. Check icbc.com before you go, especially around holidays.

How do I book a road test?

Book online at icbc.com (Book a road test), or call 604-982-2250 in Metro Vancouver, 250-978-8300 in Victoria, or 1-800-950-1498 toll-free; in other areas you can also contact the nearest driver licensing office. You pay the road test fee when you arrive. Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead, or you'll be charged a $25 fee.

What do I need to bring?

Arrive 15 minutes early with the same ID you used for your learner's licence (one primary and one secondary piece), your learner's licence, payment for the road test fee, and a safe, reliable, insured vehicle with a Canadian licence plate and its registration papers. GPS and navigation must be off, and recording devices aren't allowed during the test.

When can I take the road test, and is there a second test?

New drivers take the Class 7 road test to move from the learner (L) licence to the novice (N) licence; the earliest date you can take it is printed on your licence. Since October 19, 2026, drivers with a novice licence and a clean record no longer take a second road test: a Driving Record Assessment replaces it.
