Local tips

Sundre Registries, at 406 Main Ave W, faces a road that is also a highway: Main Avenue West carries Highways 27 and 22 about 35 m from the door and is posted at 50 km/h. A fire station is about 320 m away, so be ready to pull over for emergency vehicles. Map data shows only one set of traffic lights within a kilometre, about 365 m off, but there are 19 marked crosswalks within 800 m, so watch for people waiting to cross. Bridges on Centre Street North and Main Avenue East lie about 470 and 580 m away; keep to your lane and hold a steady speed over them. Hours vary, so phone 403-638-5744 to confirm them before you visit; road tests are by appointment. Our 49.0 km practice route starts on Main Avenue West, heads out to Range Road 44 and Township Road 324, returns on Highway 760 and Main Avenue East, then loops through 2 Street NW, 1 Avenue NW and 3 Street NW. On the highway stretches, practice checking your mirrors before slowing for each turn onto a range or township road.

Common questions

Sundre Registries road test FAQ

What are the hours at Sundre Registries?

Alberta doesn't publish hours for each registry, and they vary. Call Sundre Registries at 403-638-5744 to confirm before you go. Road tests are by appointment.

How do I book a road test?

Book online through Sundre Registries's road test booking page (the "Official booking" button on this page, also listed on alberta.ca), or in person at the registry. You'll need your 9-digit MVID number, printed near the barcode on your licence, and any outstanding Government of Alberta fines must be paid first. Registry agents set their own road test fees, up to the maximum in the province's Registry Agent Product Catalogue, so confirm the fee when you book.

What do I need for the road test?

A vehicle that meets all legal and safety requirements, plus the documents listed on the registry's road test information sheet and in your confirmation letter. The information sheet also covers eligibility, fees, and the registry's cancellation and no-show policies.

How long do I need my learner's licence first, and how is the test marked?

You must have held a Class 7 learner's licence for at least one year and be at least 16 (with a parent's or guardian's written consent if you're under 18). You fail the Class 5 road test with more than 75 points, or automatically if you endanger someone, drive unsafely or break traffic laws. After you pass the road test and a vision test, you get a probationary Class 5-GDL licence, which you hold for at least two years.

Is a practice route available for Sundre Registries?

Yes. This page has a 49.0 km Class 5 practice test route that starts and ends at the centre, with a map and turn-by-turn directions.
