Local tips

High Level Registries, at 9806 Rainbow Blvd, sits close to two highways. Highway 58 is about 145 m away and the Mackenzie Highway, carrying Highways 35 and 58, is about 305 m away, both posted at 50 km/h near the registry. Watch for larger vehicles and give them extra room. Map data also shows railway level crossings about 565 m, 765 m and 800 m away: slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. There's a school bus loading zone about 355 m away, so be ready to stop for buses with flashing lights. No traffic lights appear within a kilometre in the map data, so practice reading stop signs and yielding properly. Hours vary, so call High Level Registries at 780-926-4878 to confirm, and book your road test ahead since tests are by appointment. Our 21.0 km practice route leaves through the registry's drive-through, heads along Rainbow Boulevard and Chinchaga Drive, uses Borealis Road and 100 Avenue, then runs on Highway 58 and the Mackenzie Highway before winding through town streets such as 103 Street and 104 Avenue. Use the town section for repeated, well-signalled turns.

Common questions

High Level Registries road test FAQ

What are the hours at High Level Registries?

Alberta doesn't publish hours for each registry, and they vary. Call High Level Registries at 780-926-4878 to confirm before you go. Road tests are by appointment.

How do I book a road test?

Book online through High Level Registries's road test booking page (the "Official booking" button on this page, also listed on alberta.ca), or in person at the registry. You'll need your 9-digit MVID number, printed near the barcode on your licence, and any outstanding Government of Alberta fines must be paid first. Registry agents set their own road test fees, up to the maximum in the province's Registry Agent Product Catalogue, so confirm the fee when you book.

What do I need for the road test?

A vehicle that meets all legal and safety requirements, plus the documents listed on the registry's road test information sheet and in your confirmation letter. The information sheet also covers eligibility, fees, and the registry's cancellation and no-show policies.

How long do I need my learner's licence first, and how is the test marked?

You must have held a Class 7 learner's licence for at least one year and be at least 16 (with a parent's or guardian's written consent if you're under 18). You fail the Class 5 road test with more than 75 points, or automatically if you endanger someone, drive unsafely or break traffic laws. After you pass the road test and a vision test, you get a probationary Class 5-GDL licence, which you hold for at least two years.

Is a practice route available for High Level Registries?

Yes. This page has a 21.0 km Class 5 practice test route that starts and ends at the centre, with a map and turn-by-turn directions.
