Drumheller Registries is right on a highway. It is at Bay 400 - 300 South Railway Ave E, and South Railway Avenue, carrying Highways 9 and 56 at 50 km/h, is only about 30 m from the door. Hours vary, so call 403-823-3067 to confirm them, and remember road tests are by appointment. Map data shows 10 sets of traffic lights within a kilometre, the nearest about 155 m away, so watch for changing signals as soon as you pull out. A railway level crossing is about 835 m away; slow down, look both ways and never stop on the tracks. The Drumheller Fire station is about 735 m off, so be ready to pull over for emergency vehicles. Our practice route is short at 4.2 km, about 11 minutes. It uses 2 Street Southeast and 10 Avenue Southeast to reach Highway 9 and South Railway Avenue, then 1 Street Southwest, 5 Avenue Southwest and 2 Street Southwest. The route includes a U-turn at 9 Avenue Southeast; make it only where it is allowed and safe. Drive the loop several times to build confidence.
Common questions
Drumheller Registries road test FAQ
What are the hours at Drumheller Registries?
Alberta doesn't publish hours for each registry, and they vary. Call Drumheller Registries at 403-823-3067 to confirm before you go. Road tests are by appointment.
How do I book a road test?
Book online through Drumheller Registries's road test booking page (the "Official booking" button on this page, also listed on alberta.ca), or in person at the registry. You'll need your 9-digit MVID number, printed near the barcode on your licence, and any outstanding Government of Alberta fines must be paid first. Registry agents set their own road test fees, up to the maximum in the province's Registry Agent Product Catalogue, so confirm the fee when you book.
What do I need for the road test?
A vehicle that meets all legal and safety requirements, plus the documents listed on the registry's road test information sheet and in your confirmation letter. The information sheet also covers eligibility, fees, and the registry's cancellation and no-show policies.
How long do I need my learner's licence first, and how is the test marked?
You must have held a Class 7 learner's licence for at least one year and be at least 16 (with a parent's or guardian's written consent if you're under 18). You fail the Class 5 road test with more than 75 points, or automatically if you endanger someone, drive unsafely or break traffic laws. After you pass the road test and a vision test, you get a probationary Class 5-GDL licence, which you hold for at least two years.
Is a practice route available for Drumheller Registries?
Yes. This page has a 4.2 km Class 5 practice test route that starts and ends at the centre, with a map and turn-by-turn directions.
