Local tips
Claresholm Registries is at 138 49 Ave W, close to Highway 2, which runs through town as 1 Street West about 225 m from the office at 50 km/h. Call the registry on 403-625-4488 to confirm hours, as they vary, and remember road tests are by appointment. The two nearest traffic lights are about 185 m and 195 m away, and they are the only signals in the area, so most other intersections rely on you to judge right of way. Claresholm General Hospital is about 890 m off, so be ready to pull over for ambulances. Schools are further out, with Willow Creek Composite High School about 1.1 km away and West Meadow Elementary School about 1.3 km away. Our 47.3 km practice route goes south on 2 Street West, along 49 Avenue West and 4 Street West to 43 Avenue West and Highway 520, out to Range Road 273 and Township Road 120, then back via Highway 2, 55 Avenue West and 8 Street West. Practice turning onto Highway 2 by looking well ahead and waiting for a clear gap.
Common questions
Claresholm Registries road test FAQ
What are the hours at Claresholm Registries?
Alberta doesn't publish hours for each registry, and they vary. Call Claresholm Registries at 403-625-4488 to confirm before you go. Road tests are by appointment.
How do I book a road test?
Book online through Claresholm Registries's road test booking page (the "Official booking" button on this page, also listed on alberta.ca), or in person at the registry. You'll need your 9-digit MVID number, printed near the barcode on your licence, and any outstanding Government of Alberta fines must be paid first. Registry agents set their own road test fees, up to the maximum in the province's Registry Agent Product Catalogue, so confirm the fee when you book.
What do I need for the road test?
A vehicle that meets all legal and safety requirements, plus the documents listed on the registry's road test information sheet and in your confirmation letter. The information sheet also covers eligibility, fees, and the registry's cancellation and no-show policies.
How long do I need my learner's licence first, and how is the test marked?
You must have held a Class 7 learner's licence for at least one year and be at least 16 (with a parent's or guardian's written consent if you're under 18). You fail the Class 5 road test with more than 75 points, or automatically if you endanger someone, drive unsafely or break traffic laws. After you pass the road test and a vision test, you get a probationary Class 5-GDL licence, which you hold for at least two years.
Is a practice route available for Claresholm Registries?
Yes. This page has a 47.3 km Class 5 practice test route that starts and ends at the centre, with a map and turn-by-turn directions.
